Crash Course!!

Yesterday I was between a rock and a hard place... or a snowbank and a van! I was in a hurry to get the boys to their basketball games. I tried to make a tight turn in our driveway and didn't quite make it. I tried to back out, but my tires were just spinning in the snow. I got out and tried shoveling, ice melt, and carpet pieces, but just couldn't get it out of the groove the tire had created. Greg was at school and couldn't help, so there I am with a car full of 5 kids, late for basketball games and a huge headache.
After looking at my options - leaving the car stuck in the driveway, and listening to my bawling kids for the rest of the day, or giving Austin a quick lesson in driving! I had him come up to the front seat and said " listen carefully - this is the brake, this is the gas" he immediately got them confused! Then I said " I am putting the car in reverse, when I push just press on the gas a little, then when the car rolls out of the hole, push the brake." So I am standing in a snow bank and pushing with all of my might saying " push the gas" he says, "I am!" I yell back, "That's the brake!" Then he pushes the gas a little and I am able to push the car out. He of course immediately hits the brake full force, but I was a least prepared for him to do that, so I didn't fly into the car! Then I walked up to the drivers door and he says" wow, that was scary" as he takes his foot off the brake and blocks my way into the car by trying to get out! Meanwhile the car is going backwards and I am diving past him trying to push the gear shift into park as I can't reach the brake with him in front of me!!
We made it out of the driveway... next stop? The gas station for a large diet coke and 4 advil!!
