'We should change the law'

Driving my boys home from school yesterday (the bus couldn't bring them because of the road and snow conditions... it makes so much more sense to then get all of the parents out on those snowy roads - however, I digress!) my son Caden says "I think we should change the law, so that boys can fight girls!" He wasn't talking to me, so I didn't comment at the time, I just listened to an interesting dialog between him and his older brother. They had a good point that it wasn't fair that girls could hit them and they couldn't hit back, but at the same time, I am glad they have somehow learned the lesson not to hit a girl... now if only we could convince them that this 'law' also applies to their sisters!! Anyway, last night I was telling Greg about the converation and he was laughing, when Caden came in the room and we decided to discuss it with him. Greg trying to help him understand asked him if he knew what 'The Golden Rule' was, I started to sing the song from 'My Turn on Earth' ending with the phrase "it says, do unto others as you would have others do to you." Caden all of the sudden loudly exclaims "Aha!" So I am of course thinking, wow, we did a good job, he is having an 'aha moment' and he really gets this! He then burst my bubble by saying " do unto others what they do to you!" It turns out that he actually understood the actual rule... he was just turning it to his way of thinking by assuming that this girl (or girls as the case may be), must understand the golden rule too, meaning if they hit him, they obviously want to be hit back!! After all the rule does say "do unto others as you would have others do to you!!":)

Should I be worried that he so easily twisted the conversation to suit his thinking?! We may well be raising a great lawyer!!

On a more touching note... yesterday, Bryson brought me a picture that he had just finished drawing, he copied it from the back of Gordon B. Hinckley - Go Forward in Faith. I thought it was so sweet that he was thinking of the prophet and not only drew a picture of him, but chose to draw the picture that showed The prophet with his sweet wife.
There are times like these that I really have to wonder what these precious souls really do understand and how in tune they truly are! I was touched and so thankful that he is mine... at least for now!
